Kemsa entered into contracts with 102 native corporations to produce Covid-19 associated objects valued Sh7.8 billion. The authority has since paid out Sh4 billion to suppliers of non-public protecting gear (PPE).

“Seventy seven corporations didn’t declare any provides to Kemsa. KRA is at present conducting opinions on the businesses to determine compliance standing,” Mr Mburu instructed MPs.

Mr Mburu appeared earlier than Nationwide Meeting’s Public Investments Committee (PIC) to offer info on a particular audit report on utilisation of the Covid-19 procurement billions.

He stated KRA had taken proactive measures to look into cost of taxes by 102 corporations that did enterprise with Kemsa between March and June 2020.

“We now have deployed complete audits, compliance checks and tax intelligence opinions to make sure integrity and equity is infused into how corporations dealt with their tax administration issues,” he stated.

Knowledge tabled by Mr Mburu exhibits that out of the 102 corporations, solely 15 corporations’ declared provides to Kemsa beneath basic Worth Added Tax (VAT) charge and paid respective VAT totalling Sh191 million.

Eight declared provides to Kemsa beneath the exempt provides (not topic to tax) value Sh749,000.

Mr Mburu disclosed that 43 corporations made importations for Covid-19 associated supplies as per the World Well being Organisation record of Covid-19 provides value Sh1.9 billion and paid Sh324 million as complete taxes.
